Clean the Interior After Every Use
Food splatter left inside absorbs microwave energy on the next cycle, putting extra strain on the magnetron. Wipe down walls, ceiling, and floor after cooking to prevent buildup. A clean cavity runs cooler and lasts longer.
Never Run the Microwave When Empty
Running a microwave with nothing inside sends all the energy back into the magnetron with nowhere to go. This causes rapid overheating and can permanently damage the tube. Always have food or a cup of water inside when you run it.
Inspect the Door Seal Regularly
A cracked or worn door gasket lets microwave energy escape and lets moisture in. Run a finger around the seal every few months and look for cracks, tears, or flat spots. Replace it at the first sign of damage.
Keep Vents Clear of Obstructions
Microwaves need airflow to stay cool — blocked vents cause the thermal cutoff to trip and shorten the life of internal components. On over-the-range models, clean the grease filters monthly. On countertop units, leave a few inches of clearance on all sides.
Only Use Microwave-Safe Dishes and Containers
Metal and some plastics cause arcing that damages the interior walls and magnetron. Stick to glass, ceramic, or containers marked microwave-safe. Arcing damage is not repairable in most cases and voids any service warranty.
